This painting is an oil on canvas signed by Giovanni Paolo Pannini (1691-1765) with a monogram.
Giovanni Paolo Pannini was an architect and painter. He devoted himself above all to the representation of a typical eighteenth-century landscape typology: the capriccio.

His city views are imaginary, but often depict elements that exist. The monuments described by Pannini are painted together in imaginative and scenographic views.
In this representation, for example, you can see the ruins of a Roman bridge, other monuments typical of ancient Rome, and a temple. In the background there is a seascape.
This painting does not appear to be a copy of other paintings by Pannini. On the back there is a label placed by a restorer in the 1960s.

As for the signature, if you look at the photo of the detail, in fact, you can see a Greek gamma letter (γ), which is an abbreviation of "γεγραφη", which in ancient Greek means "painted". You can then see a letter "π", which corresponds to the initial of the surname Pannini. You can also see an "ι", between the gamma and the "π". This last letter corresponds to the name Giovanni translated into Greek (ιωαννησ)

The painting measures 54cmx45cm with the frame and 35cmx44cm without.
The painting has been transferred to a new frame and restored. No further interventions are needed. It is in excellent condition of conservation.

It is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by our Antiques Gallery in Spoleto.
The packaging will be done professionally. The painting will be shipped with the Mail Boxes service.
