This Madonna and Child dates back to the early 17th century. It is one of the so-called Madonnas of Constantinople, which in terms of iconography imitated some aspects of Byzantine icons.
Eastern monks, after the Turkish conquest of Constantinople, began to bring Eastern icons to the West starting in 1453.
This oil on canvas is large in size and comes with its original partially restored frame, which is complimentary.

The dimensions of the painting are considerable: 103cmx70.5cm with the frame, and 90cmx57cm without.

It is an oil on canvas, probably from the Florentine school. It is characterized by the great expressive intensity and by the volume and plasticity of the figures, as well as by the quality of the hands and faces.

There is a tear in the background and to the right of the child, and it has been repaired and pictorially reinstated. There are two small tears on the left, also in the background. There are also small pictorial restorations on some points of the painting: on the back of the Child's hand and on the back of the Madonna's. The images of the Madonna and Child are almost intact. The canvas is stretched. The painting does not need to be cleaned.
