This wonderful painting depicts an episode that was often treated by artists of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries: the Judgement of Solomon. This episode from the Old Testament has a happy ending: King Solomon was given the task of identifying who was the true mother between the two mothers who were fighting over the child, and he ordered that the child's body be cut in half so that each of the two mothers would have a part. Solomon knew that only the true mother would refuse this sentence, which happened. It was precisely because of the mother's desperation in the face of such a judgment that she was recognized as the child's parent.

The painting proposed here has a signature made with a brush (see photo) on the base of the column. It seems to be possible to read "Coypel" in capital letters. In any case, this work seems to be very close to the works of Charles Antoine Coypel (1694-1752), who lived in France as an official painter at the court of King Louis XV.
In particular, this work takes up the master's classical or classicising settings, in addition to the very expressive gestures of the characters and the very complex and rich draperies.

The measurements are 106cmx77cm and 117x90.5 with the frame. The frame dates back to the end of the 19th century and is offered as a gift.

This is a painting of undoubted value.

The work has been lined and does not require restoration. It is characterized by the presence of many characters: the composition is truly crowded.

It will be shipped in accordance with Italian law, with a certificate of authenticity.

Shipping will be via Mail Boxes Etc. courier.
